Since New Ocean already had the content they wanted an excellent user experience to back it up. They came to us with an existing mobile application, which lacked consistency and a user experience that matched their target user base.

UX Audit
We started our process by carefully mapping out their existing native applications. We identified the inconsistencies between iOs and Android and started identifying how to improve the flow and experience. We came to New Ocean with our findings and recommended updates. Out of the recommendations, the main included a navigational/flow update, making the components consistent across operating systems, and a stylistic elevation.
Redesigning the Flow and the UI
We updated the flow of the application to be consistent across operating systems and to create a more intuitive experience. We also updated the UI to improve user experience and aesthetics. Since New Ocean still wanted to maintain a native feel we also designed two different libraries of components to make the application feel more native even though it is a hybrid application.
Custom Icon Set
To support The Voyage’s specific content and terminology we designed a custom icon set to use within the application. This included five bottom tabs, four reward types, and a leave icon.
Custom Badge Set
The Voyage included a reward system where users would get badges for certain actions. Since the current badges did not match the new UI we redesigned those as well.
Development
We developed this application using the framework Ionic 3. We also hooked it up with their existing backend. While continuing to maintain the application we also moved them from Ionic 3 to Ionic 4.
